Doosan Bears set a KBO League record for most runs scored in a single game with a victory over the 'front-running' KIA Tigers.
Doosan won the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League with a 30-6 victory over KIA at KIA Champions Field in Gwangju on Wednesday.
Doosan scored 30 runs on 28 hits and 14 extra-base hits on the day, breaking the previous record of 27 runs set by the Samsung Lions on May 4, 1997 against the LG Twins.
Doosan, which recorded its second straight win, remained in fifth place with 53 points (2 wins, 2 draws, 50 losses).
KIA, the victim of a humiliating record, suffered its 40th loss of the year (60-2), narrowing its lead to five games over second-place LG (54-2-44), which escaped a two-game sweep on the day.
Down 1-2 in the top of the third inning, Doosan scored seven runs on seven hits to extend its lead to 8-2.
They traded runs in the next two innings to take a 9-3 lead in the top of the fifth inning, which included a three-run homer by Kang Seung-ho to make it 13-2.
With the momentum on their side, Doosan scored 11 runs in the sixth inning, including home runs by Jared Young and Jae-hwan Kim, to take a 25-3 lead and effectively 안전한 파워볼사이트 seal the victory. Doosan added five more runs in the bottom of the inning to set a new record for most runs scored in a game.
Jared, Doosan's newest foreigner, was 5-for-6 with two home runs and eight RBIs. Kang Seung-ho led the offense with four hits and six RBIs, while Kim Ki-yeon had five hits and four RBIs.
The Hanwha Eagles rode a 22-hit offense to an 18-7 victory away from home against the KT Wiz, extending their winning streak to five games.
Hanwha remained in eighth place with 43 wins and 53 losses, while KT dropped to 49 wins and 50 losses, dropping below the halfway mark.
Hanwha starter Ryu Hyun-jin struggled, giving up six runs (five earned) on 12 hits in five innings, the most in a single game in his professional debut. However, the offense helped the team win its sixth game of the season in 43 days, the first time since March 18th.
KT starting pitcher Ko Young-pyo struggled, allowing seven runs (four earned) on 11 hits and one walk with four strikeouts in five innings.
The SSG Landers extended their winning streak to five games with a 12-11 victory over the Lotte Giants at Anbang, a game that went into the 12th inning.
SSG trailed 5-10 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, but scored five runs in its final at-bat to send the game into extra innings. SSG gave up a run in the top of the 12th inning, but Oh Tae-gon's two-run walk-off home run in the next at-bat secured the win.
LG got hits from all of its starters in an 11-5 win over Samsung at home to snap a two-game losing streak. The NC Dinos swept the Kiwoom Heroes 9-0 in Gocheok.

Legend Oh Seung-hwan (42, Samsung Lions) suffered an unexpected blow. Jung Hae-young (23, KIA Tigers) is on the shelf with shoulder inflammation. The saves race is about to get interesting.
Through June, the leader is Oh Seung-hwan with 24 saves. Jung Jung-young is second with 21 saves. Yoo Young-chan (LG Twins) and Moon Seung-won (SSG Landers) are next with 17 saves. Kim Won-joong (Lotte Giants) with 16 saves and Lee Yong-chan (NC Dinos) with 13 saves round out the top five.
Oh Seung-hwan will attempt to repeat as the world's best saves leader for the first time since 2021 (44 saves). It will be his sixth career save title after 2007-2008, 2011-2012, and 2021. He will be the oldest pitcher in history to win the title. With 424 career saves in the KBO and 546 career saves in Korea-U.S.-Japan, the odds are definitely in the legend's favor. Just like in 2021, Samsung has a strong batting lineup and a strong back end this year. Saves tend to go to the closer of the team with the best offense.
Oh Seung-hwan also tasted the bitter end last month, when he gave up two runs on two hits and one walk in ⅓ innings against the Suwon KT Wiz for his third blown save of the season. It had been 12 days since his blown save and loss against the Changwon NC Dinos on March 16, when he allowed two runs on two hits and two walks in ⅓ innings.
Still, Oh is 1-4 with a 2.48 ERA in 35 starts and 24 saves this season. He no longer throws a fastball like he used to. Instead, he mixes in a forkball and a curveball in addition to his main slider. He"s not someone to falter after a bad game or two.
Jeong Jung-young is closed. He went down with shoulder pain after hitting the game-winning solo shot in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Hanwha Eagles in Gwangju last month. He is still 2-2 with a 2.25 ERA and 21 saves in 32 games this season. His average fastball velocity has increased to 146 mph, up from 143.2 mph last year, according to Baseball-Reference.com. Last winter, he studied abroad at the Driveline Baseball Center in Seattle, USA.
Jeong Jung-young's shoulder inflammation is not a major injury. Manager Lee Bum-ho predicted that he could return to the first team from the first game of the second half against the LG Twins on Sept. 9. His quest for his first career save title will resume in the 19사이트 second half. For now, Oh Seung-hwan's strongest opposition is Mada.
Aside from Oh and Jung, the other pitcher to keep an eye on is Yoo Young-chan. LG, along with Kia and Samsung, has the most stable power. Yoo pitched the second game of a doubleheader in Changwon against the NC Dinos on March 30 when the score suddenly narrowed, but he pitched 1⅔ innings of one-hit ball with four strikeouts and no walks to earn his 17th save of the season. In 36 games, he is 5-3, 17 saves, 1 hold, and a 1.89 ERA.
Their pitching is stable enough to keep their ERAs in the 1-run range. With Samsung and Kia's power, it's unlikely that Oh Seung-hwan and Jeong Jung-young will be able to slow down their save pace. However, saves are contingent on a number of factors, and the tide could change suddenly if they're unlucky. Despite their novice closing, their pitches are anything but novice. Yoo also has a forkball and a slider. His velocity is also competitive, averaging 148.2 kilometers per hour. The late-season saves race will be interesting to watch.

Vincent Kompany, the new head coach of German top-flight club Bayern Munich, has revealed that he was first approached by Chelsea before Munich. However, Kompany reportedly turned them down twice.
“Vincent Kompany rejected Chelsea's phone calls twice,” British media outlet GiveMeSports reported on Dec. 31, adding that Kompany was linked to Chelsea before his move to Bayern Munich.
Kompany was offered by both Chelsea and Munich, but he chose to stay in Germany.“Bayern Munich has appointed Vincent Kompany as the new head coach of Bayern Munich,” the club announced on its official website on Tuesday, adding that the 38-year-old has agreed to a contract with the club until June 30, 2027.
“I am looking forward to the challenge in Munich. “It is a great honor to be able to work for this club,” said Kompany, “I am looking forward to working with the fundamental players and building the team. If you get the fundamentals right, success will follow,” said Kompany.Kompany's appointment at Munich came quickly. Until this week, Kompany hadn't even been on the shortlist for Munich's next manager, but this week, his name was mentioned for the first time and the appointment was finalized.
Kompany has a track record: He played under Pep Guardiola, now considered the best manager in the world, so he knows his tactics well, and last season he took charge of second-tier Burnley, leading them to the top of the table and promotion to the Premier League in his first season.
However, Burnley were relegated to the second tier as soon as they reached the Premier League. Kompany brought the attacking tactics he used last season to the Premier League, but the barriers in the Premier League are high. Munich looked at his 토토사이트 tactics rather than his results and chose him as their next manager.
Chelsea, who were humiliated by Kompany's rejection, have identified Enzo Maresca, who led Leicester City to promotion to the top flight this season, as an alternative and have already agreed a contract.
“Chelsea have agreed to appoint Enzo Maresca as their new manager,” Fabrizio Romano, a journalist specializing in the transfer market, said on social media on June 28. “A five-year contract has been signed, valid until June 2029, with an option to extend until June 2030. Chelsea have agreed to pay Leicester a compensation fee,” signaling the imminent appointment of Maresca.Maresca took charge of Leicester this season, leading the Foxes to the top of the table and promotion to the Premier League in his first season in charge. After two years in the Premier League, Leicester are now in a position where they need to appoint a new manager, as they had hoped to stay in the Premier League with Maresca.
One thing the Foxes have in common with Chelsea's potential appointment is that they have been linked to Manchester City's Guardiola. Kompany was City's captain under Guardiola. Maresca was City's first-team coach last season and worked with Guardiola to lead the club to its first treble.
Both Chelsea and Munich are starting fresh with new managers. Comparisons will be made based on how the two managers fare next season.

Jose Mourinho's arrival at Fenerbahce is imminent.
“Mourinho and Fenerbahce have reached a verbal agreement on a two-year contract until the summer of 2026, with an option for a one-year extension,” transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano said on social media on Wednesday. It will include an option for a one-year extension. Now it's time to finalize all the paperwork and sign the contract,” he said, adding that the signature phrase ‘HERE WE GO,’ used when an official is imminent, could be shouted soon.
Mourinho has won numerous trophies with Porto, Chelsea, Real and Inter Milan. He won the Portuguese League, Portuguese Cup, and UEFA Cup (now the UEFA Europa League) in the 2002-03 season with Porto, completing a 'mini-treble'. The following season, he also won the UEFA Champions League.
He then moved to Chelsea, where he continued his success in England. In his first season, he won the Premier League (PL) title with the fewest goals conceded (15). In three years, he won two league titles, one FA Cup, and two League Cups.Mourinho's next challenge was in the Italian Serie A. He also proved his leadership skills at Inter Milan, winning the Serie A, Coppa Italia, and UEFA Champions League in the 2009-10 season, a triple treble. He then went on to manage Real, Chelsea, and Manchester United, winning trophies with all of them before being sacked after just his third season.
Before taking over at AS Roma, he managed Tottenham, where Son Heung-min was playing, but left after two years without winning a single trophy. He was named AS Roma manager ahead of the 2021-22 season. In his first season in charge, the club won the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference title.Last season was another positive one, with the team reaching the UEFA Europa League final. However, this season has been a bit of a disappointment. In mid-January, AS Roma announced on the club's website that “Mourinho and his coaching staff will be leaving the club.” Shortly afterward, the club appointed Daniele De Rossi as head coach.
Mourinho was linked to a number of clubs in the immediate aftermath of his sacking. His hometown clubs Chelsea and Porto were among the favorites, as well as Newcastle United and Saudi Arabian clubs. At first, Mourinho expressed his intentions, saying, “I hope to be back in the field from the upcoming summer.”
Then Fenerbahce emerged as a possible candidate. In the middle of this month, Portuguese media outlet Avola reported that “Mourinho has emerged as Fenerbahce's new managerial candidate. Fenerbahce will soon elect a new president. The election date is 토토사이트 May 25th. One of the candidates, Aziz Yildirim, has promised to appoint Mourinho as his campaign pledge.”According to the outlet, Yildirim said, “I spoke to Mourinho for about two hours. I told him, 'I need you. I also said that Fenerbahce needs you'. Mourinho accepted. We are also negotiating with his agent. If I become president, I will give him the baton,” he said.
Besiktas has also been linked to Mourinho. “As Besiktas continues its search for a new coach for next season, the club has made some progress in recent days, according to Turkish media outlet Milliyet. The second president of Besiktas, Hussein Wissel, revealed that he has met with Mourinho.”According to the outlet, Wissel said: “We were in contact with Mourinho a month ago and he responded positively to our offer. Everything will be decided within the next week. The meeting next week is important. The financial details, such as salary, have already been finalized.”
But the final destination was Fenerbahce. Fenerbahçe is a prestigious club in Turkkiye where Kim played two years ago. This season, they finished second in the Turkkiye Super Lig. They lost to Galatasaray again. Fenerbahçe hasn't won the league title in 10 years, since the 2013-14 season. The club has hired Mourinho, who is a “championship man” and is looking to regain the crown.

KT Wiz swept Game 4 thanks to a strong pitching performance from 'ace' William Cuevas and an explosive batting lineup.
KT defeated NC 11-2 in the fourth game of the '2023 Shinhan Bank Shootout KBO League' playoffs (best-of-five, best-of-three system) at Changwon NC Park on Wednesday. With 14 hits, including three home runs, KT's offense exploded for 11 runs, while starter Cuevas (6 1/3 innings, no hits, no walks, three strikeouts) pitched a stellar game four.
KT, which lost both games at home despite using two foreign starters, evened the series at 2-2 with the "magic" of two straight wins in Changwon. Game 5, which will decide the final ticket to the Korean Series, will be held at KT's home stadium, Katie Weeds Park in Suwon, on May 5.
The star of the game four victory was undoubtedly Cuevas.
While NC's pitchers were falling apart, Cuevas kept the NC bats in check with his 'undefeated winning percentage'. After Hwang Jae-gyun reached on an error in the first inning, he retired 17 consecutive batters to keep his no-hitter alive until the bottom of the sixth inning. He gave up a single to Son to break the no-hitter, but pitched a perfect game without allowing a single run until the sixth inning, setting the stage for KT's big win.
Cuevas, who had a disappointing game one with seven runs (four earned) on six hits in three innings, redeemed himself by being named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the day. After the game, KT manager Lee Kang-cheol said, "Cuevas pitched well like an ace. Thanks to him, we were able to win comfortably."
Cuevas was credited with saving the day for Hwang Jae-gyun.
Hwang Jae-gyun made a critical error in the first game of the POs, missing a simple fly ball, and hung his head in shame after missing a ground ball in the second game. As KT lost two games in a row, the fans' desire for Hwang Jae-gyun grew. Under pressure to "do better," Hwang Jae-gyun missed a simple grounder by the first batter, Son As-seob, in the fourth game and allowed a run to score.
Cuevas, who started the game for Hwang Jae-gyun, sent him a message with his body language and eyes that it was okay and that he shouldn't be 사설토토 shaken. Cuevas did not allow a single batter to reach base until the bottom of the sixth inning, setting the stage for KT's victory.
If Cuevas had gotten into trouble after Hwang Jae-gyun walked the first batter, Hwang could have taken the blame for the error. With Cuevas's pitching covering up Hwang's error, Hwang Jae-gyun hit an RBI single in the second inning and a solo home run in the fourth inning to help KT win the game.
Cuevas' ace-like performance, which also saved veteran center fielder Hwang Jae-gyun, boosted KT's chances of advancing to the Korean Series.
